SCENT OF A WOMAN = A BUCKET OF POPCORN and two fingers of John Daniels, no water.
Walked past a man today. I heard him sniff and murmur "Scent of A Woman." I turned all the way around and smiled at him. He turned and smiled and said "remember that movie with Al Pacino?" We both laughed, nodded and wished each other a good day.
Ahh the power of movies...
SCENT OF A WOMAN (Al Pacino, Chris O'Donnell)
Do you remember when you first watched it? I do. A wonderful little movie with big names and big impact, though the names weren't so big back then. Gabrielle Anwar's tango, James Rebhorn's cruddy threats, and the late great Philip Seymour Hoffman's panzy snitching attempt. Bradley Whitford, Frances Conroy and even Ron Eldard made memorable appearances in this story about a young man learning the meaning of integrity and a wounded soldier rediscovering his worth.
I was only 12, but the movie made an impact. At the time, I didn't know much about Pacino besides Scarface, so to see him in an introspective, triumphant piece like this was a complete turnabout. O'Donnell was fresh-faced, insecure and perfect. His character really resonated with me in my tween years. (What in the world was I doing watching this at 12, don't know? lol)
What a memory though, watching this incredible movie cross-legged in the middle of the living room floor. Favorite scenes/quotes include:
- Lt. Col. Frank Slade's speech on the airplane about the glory of women
- "I'm in the daarrk here!!!!"
- The test drive
- "If I were the man I was five years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER TO THIS PLACE"
- "If you're tangled up, just tango on."
Thx guy for conjuring this memory.
